Kogi State House of Assembly has urged the state government to come to the rescue residents of Ponyan community in Yagba East Local Government Area of the state.
The State Assembly wants the the state government to control the erosion which is currently damaging the only state road in the area and rehabilitate it for vehicular movements.
Hon Emmanuel Obaro, member representing Yagba East State Constituency, had in a matter of urgent public importance he raised on the floor of the house narrated how erosion was threatening the only state road that leads to Ponyan community.
According to him, the road was almost cut off, adding that when it is cut off movement of goods and food items from the south- east axis of Yagba East to other parts of the state would no longer be possible.
Hon Obaro added that it would also cause a lot of inconveniences and suffering for the residents of Ponyan who would be locked in in their village when the road is cut off.
Seconding him, Hon Yahaya Umar who represents Omala state constituency emphasized the importance of accessible roads to communities ,saying that without a good road a community is locked away from others.
Also, Hon Abu Onoru-Oiza Jibrin in supporting him, urged the state government to swing into action to curtail the erosion menace so as not to disconnect the residents from social amenities.
Ruling on the matter, the Speaker, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, stressed the importance of good roads and after a voice vote from members who supported the motion, he directed the Clerk to convey the resolution of the House to the state government.
