The people of Kotonkarfe in Kogi Local Government Area of Kogi State have been asked to see the forthcoming Lokoja-Kogi federal constituency House of Representatives bye election as another opportunity for the local government area to rebound in the national political scene.
Alhaji Usman Nababa Likitura, a community leader and politician from Kotonkarfe, urged the people to embrace the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Engr. Bashiru Abubakar, adding that it will signal another opportunity for the area to get back to national political recognition.
Alh. Usman lamented a situation where Kogi LGA in the first and second republic produced Ministers, Ambassadors and held federal appointments, but described as worrisome how the area has in the last few years been relegated to the back stage of the nations politics.
Alh. Usman urged the people of Koton karfe to see the 11th August, 2018 bye election as a defining moment for generations coming behind to have a sense of belonging in the nations politics, said if we don’t get it right on the 11 August, 2019, it will spell doom for the areas next generation politicians.
The Octogenarian advised the people of Koton karfe to shun money politics, saying it would speak volume about the peoples integrity, principles, and their high moral courage, if their sense of resoluteness that should determine victory for their son is swayed because of money politics.
Alh. Usman said the present administration has failed the people, added that any money shared to win the conscience of the people of Kogi LGA in the forthcoming bye election, monies that ought to have been used to pay salaries and pensioners, should not be accepted to change their voting pattern.
The Community leader urged the people of Koton karfe to collect government money that would be shared without allowing it to sway their voting pattern disclosing after all that it is the States’ money, that ought to have been used to pay salaries and in infrastructure development.
The bye election according to the octogenarian present the best opportunity for the people of Kogi LGA to reclaim what used to be shared between two local government areas but has eluded them for sometime, called on the people of Koton karfe to be united as victory is certain.
