Rector Assures Kogi Poly Staff, Students of Improved Welfare, Conducive Environment

The Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Prof. Salisu Usman, has promised an improved welfare and conducive environment for staff and students of the institution.

Usman gave the assurance when members of Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi council, paid a courtesy visit to his office on Tuesday in Lokoja.

The journalists were in the rector’s office to congratulate him on his reappointment as well as his recent elevation to the rank of full professor and to also condole him on the demise of his brother.

The rector promised to give topmost priority to the welfare, initiate incentives, and enhanced conducive environment for staff and students to drive the vision to achieve the objectives of the institution in his second term.

He added that the institution would also device strategies to improve its internally generated revenue (IGR), massive investment in agriculture, water treatment plant, and solar powered electricity to curb incessant power outage within the campus.

The don stressed the need to scale up plans, programmes and strategies that would make the institution a leading brand in the global competitive educational sector.

The political scientist assured that the institution would continue to produce well-rounded graduates prepared to adapt to changing environments, navigate complex challenges, be self-reliant, and make a positive impact in the society.

Usman stressed that the institution had made tremendous achievements under his watch since assumption of office as acting Rector in April, 2020 and his subsequent confirmation on February 12, 2021.

Usman stressed that he initiated strategies to tackle the hydra headed challenges that had impeded the growth of the institution,

He hilightled his administration’s achievements to include: tackling insecurity, assumed full accreditation status, improved academic matters & quality assistance, and introduction of new programmes.

Others were: establishment of new directorates, infrastructural & environmental development, recruitment of new staff, implementation of 2015 to 2020 promotion, research breakthroughs, among others.

The rector appreciated the former Gov Yahaya Bello for giving him the opportunity to serve the state in that capacity and for the trust, unyielding faith, guidance and support received from him.

The rector expressed his utmost gratitude to Gov Ahmed Ododo, for reappointing him, and promised that the institution would continue to witness progress and development under his administration to sustain the legacies of his predecessor.

He thanked the members of the correspondent for the visit, noting that their constant appraisal of his administration has kept him on his toes.

The rector assured the journalists of the continued collaboration and partnership in promoting the image of the institution, and urged them to sustain the support.

Earlier, the Chairman NUJ Correspondent chapel, Segun Salami, congratulated the rector for his reappointment and the attainment of his full professorship, while sympathising with him on the demise of his brother.

Salami commended the rector for the unprecedented transformational development he has brought to thee institution and for restoring its lost glory.

Salami, who doubles as the Channels TV Correspondent, assured the rector of the continuous support of the chapel in projecting the institution’s programmes and achievements to the world.
