Our attention has been drawn to a press release by Mr Fehinti Dada on the issue of Ijumu Local Government chairmanship.

According to him, he pleaded that the Governor, Alh.Yahaya Bello should not appoint Alh.Taufiq Isa as the executive chairman of the local government. However, the writer has forgotten that the post of executive chairman is not by appointment but through the process of election which is usually decided by the party delegates and electorates.

According to Mr. Fehinti Dada, his hearsay that those to be appointed by the Governor will fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming local council poll is a preemptive attack on the powers of the executive governor to appoint whoever he feels qualified and capable of appointing into positions of authority.

To set the record straight, Mr Fehinti Dada has not indicated interest to contest the chairmanship position in Ijumu, so he is not an aspirant and therefore can not speak for the aspirants. More so, if he so loved Ijumu Oke why did he work against the party candidate in 2019 House of Assembly election who also came from Ijumu Oke?

On the issue of arrangement, politics is different from traditional arrangement. Politics is all about interest of majority which has nothing to do with traditional stool. If the wish of the majority is Alh.Taufiq Isa based on his antecedents and popularity, so be it.

As we speak, Ijumu Oke is housing House of Assembly, Ijumu Arin has the senate, for equity and justice Ijumu-Gbede should produce the Executive Chairman to balance the political equation.

We strongly believed that the Governor had made wide consultation and having governed the State for over four years the Governor is well informed about the events and politics in all local government in the state.

Alh.Taufiq Isa is a grassroot mobilizer who built the APC structure in Ijumu and Okunland, he is one of the founding member of GYB and has contributed immensely to the victories of APC in Kogi State, so, he deserves the post of Executive Chairman if he so wishes to contest, devoid of sentiment.
