Listen to the voice of Onome !! A sorrowful lady evolve in the circle of her past a pain so strong that cannot be healed.

Rape has become a thorn on the flesh of many Nigerians, the undying battle between young teenage girls.

According to the UN, one in four women in Nigeria have experience sexual violence and majority of this cases go unreported. This is often due to lack of trust in the justice system, as well as social stigma and culture of silence around sexual violence.

Gender inequality is also a major factor contributing to rape in Nigeria, a country where women are not treated equally as men, often seen as less valuable and more disposable hence creating an environment where women are victimized and the men more likely to be entitled to sex in addition many women in Nigeria do not have access to education which makes them more vulnerable to abuse.

The issue of rape in Nigeria is a complex phenomenon.

A saying goes this “hurt people, hurt people” this is very true and it is one of the major cause of the prevalence of this s vices in our society today.

Many at times the perpetrators of this crimes were once victims of the ugly circumstance, and see that as liberty to inflict such pain by hurting other people. However, it is not a good enough reason for that act of pure wickedness, issues such as that can be resolved through therapy and proper counseling.

Conclusively, cases such as this should be strictly followed after by the right authorities to enable victims get the justice they deserve, because the reason for this constant reoccurrence is that people usually get away with those vices, especially in our country, of course this can only happen victims speak up.

We have the responsibility as members of the society to  avoid stigmatization, victims shaming and blaming and encouraging victims to speak up, especially to the right authorities to help curb this vice that has penetrated into our society overtime.
