The social media was awash with fallacies and lies over the rape allegation against one Kogi state Commissioner. The mischievous in their usual manner have sentenced the accused commissioner in their court of warped public opinion without making efforts to unravel the true story before crucifying the man.

The outcome of recent elections in Nigeria revealed that social media due to free access serve as tool for people to share emotional sentiments, half-truth, fallacies and even outright falsehood.

It’s therefore imperative for Kogi State Government under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello to allow Security Operatives to conclude their investigation before taking action in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice.

It is noteworthy that Governor Yahaya Bello as a responsive and proactive leader has taken the right step by moving to investigate the matter at State Cabinet level.

To this end, NGOs, human rights advocates and other Kogites should avoid media trial, name calling and labelling while Police investigation is still ongoing. Only the court can pronounce somebody accused of wrongdoing guilty! It is getting obvious by the day that the real object of attack is not the commissioner but a “Natashaic mud slinging on GYB”. We will follow this matter to a logical conclusion.
