It was indeed, one of those indescribable sad moments of history when the news filtered in from every electronic and print media across the globe that Prince Abubakar Audu (aka ADOJA); the man who was widely believed to had won the 2015 gubernatorial election in Kogi State, has died on Sunday, November, 2015 at his home, Ogbonicha, at the age of 68.
Since the said development, the commentaries, condolence messages and tributes have not stopped flowing from every leaders across the globe. All the major leaders, both past and present, have rendered their heart, expressing the magnitude of this great loss; not only to Kogi and Nigeria, but also the world.
Rarely in the history of man, do we see the entire people standing practically still to purse, reflect, recollect and strive to emulate the life of one man. All that we could think of is, if only we have such political leaders as Abubakar Audu in the different states of Nigeria, the black country would be a better place for all of us. This is why we believe that Abubakar Audu is a perfect role model that every past and present Nigerian Politician and Leader should emulate.
Abubakar Audu truly lived for his state and died for his state. As a public servant, he inspired people to believe that there is a higher purpose in life, other than what some of our political leaders are portraying public office to be today-a place to amass, misappropriate public funds and live in stupendous splendor.
Despite being so well-connected, globally influential and highly reversed and respected by various global leaders, Abubakar Audu’s humility, selfless ambiance and genuine concern for humanity cannot be compared to many leaders of his stature. The world is celebrating the life and times of Audu; our only prayer is that our Political leaders will go beyond the commentaries and condolence messages to reflect and ponder on their individual lives and style of leadership, so as to emulate the high standard set by Audu , and lead the citizenry well.
Audu will forever be celebrated and remembered throughout the entire world. He lived for something, he fought for something and has rested; leaving a worthy legacy behind. He practically lost his entire life, career as a banker, money, family, and fame to struggle for the freedom, peace, equality, reconciliation and forgiveness amongst and for his people. This is practically the opposite of what most past and present political leaders represent. Some politicians and leaders are busy daily fighting for party and part dominance; killing for money and using every tricks they can muster to remain in power; struggling for fame and mismanaging and misappropriating public funds for their self-centered interests.
Truly, our politicians should be reminded that they will one day die ‘unexpectedly’ without a trace, and generations yet unborn will never remember them “if they continue with their evil ways .
For Audu, he was only “remembered for good” and for positively changing the lives of not only his people, but also that of humanity as a whole.
He is now resting. He is now at peace. Our nation has lost its greatest son,”. “Our people have lost a father.
Let us reaffirm his vision of a society in which none is exploited, oppressed or dispossessed by another.
We will remember him as a man of uncommon grace and compassion, for whom abandoning bitterness and embracing adversaries was not just a political strategy but a way of life.
He will always be remembered and honoured by all mankind as one of its greatest liberators, a wise, courageous and compassionate leader, and an icon of true democracy.
Let the right things be done, we urge, as we equally say Rest In Peace Prince Abubakar Audu; The Great Hero of our time.
