Thousands of All Progressives Congress, APC, members in Kogi State yesterday took to streets in both Lokoja and Kabba protesting the alleged diversion of election materials meant for Kogi West Senatorial District by one of the aspirants, Hon. Dino Melaye.

Melaye was alleged to have later declared himself the winner of the APC senatorial primary for the area.

One of the aspirants, Abidemi Adeyemi, who addressed newsmen in Lokoja over the issue, said he was shocked reading from an online medium that he pulled 300 votes while Melaye pulled 3,000 in an election that did not take place.

“We waited in vain for the primaries in Kabba. The opposition party in the state has failed to live up to the expectation of the people in its promise to make a clean break away from election malpractices in the country. This exercise was a fraud and a mockery of democracy,” Adeyemi said.

The aspirant who is also the Minority Whip in the state House of Assembly accused the former governor of the state, Prince Abubakar Audu of allegedly being the brain behind the crisis facing the APC in the state.

“The leaders of the party in Kogi State have jettisoned the original principle of equity and justice that the APC stands for because of their desperation,” he added, and threatened to seek legal redress if the illegal action was not redressed.
