He said that is there no room for violence before, during and after the election. Okafor, who promised to ensure a successful conduct of the poll with adequate security, stated that the police was on the red alert to ward off crises.
The commissioner urged those harbouring illegal firearms to submit them immediately, stressing that the authorities were already mopping up illegal arms and ammunition.
He described the forthcoming 2015 general election, which according to him, is very much around the corner, as a cardinal point and acid test. Okafor stated that all stakeholders, particularly politicians, are warming up, assuring the gladiators of adequate security coverage.
“The police is determined and ready to ensure a successful conduct of this all important event,” he stated. He enjoined all stakeholders to play the game according to the rules and requested that all hands must be on deck to ensure a hitch-free, credible and peaceful election.
The police boss also counseled against negative acts such as thuggery, inciting disturbances, unlawful assemblies, as well as unlawful possession and illegal use of firearms under any guise not known to the law.
These, he said, would not be tolerated, as anyone involved would be promptly arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
The commissioner reminded the public of the ban on masquerades by the state government, urging those involved in such activities and their sponsors to desist.
He warned that the command would not hesitate to take adequate steps to apprehend and prosecute any group or persons violating the order.
Okafor solicited the cooperation and collaboration of other security agencies in the state in the fight against crimes and criminality.
