We consider it necessary to make this statement as the largest body of professionals of Okun descent world-wide.
We are not unaware of the events that have led to the recent events culminating in the recall of our senator, Dino Melaye. We therefore wish to make the following submissions.
1. Our position is that the principle of leadership by example must always hold in public service and as such, our conclusions were drawn mostly on this principle.
2. We completely dissociate ourselves and this noble group, OPN, from any attempt to coerce or motivate (with money) the people of Kogi West to recall Senator Dino Melaye.
3. We wish to call the Senator to give account of his stewardship with evidence of performance instead of playing to the gallery in the recall saga.
4. Lessons should be drawn from these events, public office is not for self-aggrandizement but for service, our leaders should make amends accordingly.
5. We agree with our Senator’s support and call to the government, all outstanding salaries, pensions, and allowances of people in Kogi state should be paid immediately without any further delays.
6. Senator Dino Melaye must accept that the people can hire and fire their public officials, if the people who voted him have decided to recall him, so be it. It is the true beauty of democratic principles.
7. We continue to pray for peace and progress as we hope that our leaders will learn to be transparent, accountable, and accessible in public trust in Okunland
