Except for a Hematological pessimism, the September 20th supreme court ruling which upheld the respondent(APC/INEC) has laid to rest all the lingers that surround Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the governor of Kogi state. Whether or not it is a popular wish nor the divine will of God, it will take no lesser than another thirty six calendar months before anything can be done about it. Therefore, it is pertinent for all those who wish Kogi well to either join hands with the government or brace up with objective criticisms in order to move the state forward as well as to make the government stand firm on its feet.
Of course, the circulating news making rounds about his Excellency captain Idris Ichalla Wada’s readiness to work with the Yahaya Bello led government in moving the state forward should and must be adequately tapped by the incumbent government if it truly means well for the state. The development must not be perceived as a cunning attempt for soft landing but an advantage to advance the state in terms of peaceful coexistence and inter party harmony. Therefore, the incumbent governor must not wait for the former governor’s action but make speedy approach towards him in this regard.
The governor has said in his victory speech that he now has no reason not to perform after the supreme court Judgment and his chief of staff buttressed this further on a nationwide program of channels television(state of the nation) where he categorically said that “His Excellency received with delight the message from Capt Idris Wada to work with the governor for the progress of Kogi state. I’m sure in the days ahead, we shall see more action towards that.” What is therefore left out is to practically close ranks and embrace the Faleke/Audu structure that Kogi may truly rise again.
It has been severally said that the Yahaya Bello led government is on a new direction but if it continues with the normal style of leadership we know in Nigeria and our states, the new direction end shall have no fruits of worthy encomiums. The normal style of leadership which must be avoided include political captivation of opposition, probing of past government, silencing of critics, neglecting of civil servants welfare and enrichment of only political allies. While every government can justify this dystopian actions with prerogatives, it’s end often yield poor assessment.
So, all those within the structure of the incumbent government must as a matter of necessity and urgency make consultations beyond partisanship, ethnic, support base and political gains in order to secure an atmosphere of utopia and free will services that can move the state forward. It has been severally alleged that the government has no place for elders because of its drive for generational shift and youth development. If true, Kudos; the essence is genuine but the resolve is unripe as the “words of elders are words of wisdom” and as such they must not be completely out of the scheme of governance.
As it stands, Kogi is in disarray, the rebuilding process requires all hands on deck, irrespective of the challenges and gains diversely exposed to different quarters, in the end; be it good or bad, our generation shall be held responsible and accountable of the state we leave behind for the generations yet unborn. Let’s never forget the words of Hellen Keller which she says-“The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of tiny pushes of each honest worker”. Arise O’ compatriots. Let honesty of purpose rule our state and we shall all rejoice on the pay day!
God Bless Kogi State,
God Bless Federal Republic of Nigeria.
