I, Alfa Tijani hereby call on the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to urgently provide the right response to the current hardship across the state.

Governor Bello’s administration has performed below expectation.

With all sense of responsibility, majority of those leaders were not picked on merit, so how do you expect them to perform any magic? I can tell you that this is not a listening government, so they must surely come short of expectation.

It is very unfortunate that this government came under the pretense of change and miracle. But I keep asking whether the spirit of change has failed them or they refused to live up to their promises. I pray that this state’s situation does not get to what is happening in some other places of the world.

People are suffering so much, salaries are being owed. Youths, farmers, pensioners and workers expected that the leaders will reduce the hardship in the state but they are more interested in going about to talk. People are tired of listening to things they did not do but appear on Facebook and other social media cables.

However the number of schools, facilities and teachers available for basic education remain inadequate for the eligible number of children and youths in Kogi state; this is more pronounced in rural areas like my country home, Igalamela/Odolu LGA of Kogi state. It is not rare to see 100 pupils per teacher in some public schools. Under these conditions, teaching and learning cannot be effective; hence the outcomes are usually below expectation.

To verify this claim, I went around to get facts from respondents. They were asked; “Personally, during the course of your day, do you normally see children out of school in your locality?” In response to this question, the overall majority (78%) confirm that in their various localities, they usually see children out of school during the course of the day. Comparatively only 22% of the respondents answered negatively to seeing children out of school in their localities.

The task of improving workers welfare, creating a conducive business environment to attract investments and grow existing businesses and creating jobs is a tripartite collaborative effort between trade and labour unions, private sector players and government.

I laud the patriotic sacrifices and unbroken faith in Kogi state by workers, pensioners, farmers and youths across the 21 LGA even in the face of tough times.
