Following the death of Prince Abubakar Audu and INEC’s permission of the APC to substitute him with a candidate. Not minding my goodwill for Capt Idris  Ichala Wada, I was unequivocally submissive to God by accepting fate with the nomination of Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the December 5th, 2015 supplementary election as divine. Not as a result of compromise but with the impression that his candidacy is predestined. Therefore, the expectation was that his steward will be of the people by the people and for the people. It appeared to those who had similar conviction as though the state would be elevated to high heavens; but little did we know reverse was going to be the state.

Hmmmmmm! Not up to six months into the divine administration, Kogi started experiencing an economic and welfare recession never experienced since the history of the state. For the very first time, civil servants went into Ramadan fasting without receiving their salaries. I read with dismay how this divine governor accepted a smoke screen surprise birthday package (dinner party) during the holy month of Ramadan hosting star artiste as Korede Bello of the expensive Mavin’s record while the dietary of many homes were  mystery. Putting into consideration the fact that commercial activities does not move well if civil servants are not paid, a vast majority of the state were put into hardship directly or indirectly although the holy month and sallah as well.

If the voice of the people is truly the voice of God-then, “God has since said NO to governor Yahaya Bello in less than one year into office” based on popular opinion and daily howl among Kogites. While I am certain that few beneficiaries of the conduits through which the New direction government channel the state resources will rise to negate this assertion. With God lies the ultimate truth and I vigorously pray that “May God Treat Governor Bello And His Apologists Exactly As Kogi Masses Feel (AMEN)”. Kogi is so blessed with human and natural resources to be heading toward the way it is going.

But, whereas it is too early to completely crucify the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, it is worthy to note also that while All Progressive Congress’ led administration across the country are characterised by blaming her ineptitude on past government; the lapses of the new direction government so far, among other decadence include statewide insecurity, low economic activities, lack of commitment to civil servants plights, misplacement of priorities, lack of empathy and to mention but a few. Even though the state capital, Lokoja’s dirty look was inherited, the ancient city no longer bubble in terms of business activity as a result of untold hardships and lack of money circulation.

Been that security of lives and property is the ultimate responsibility of every government, the issue of insecurity is a big blow on the new direction handlers as kidnapping remains at a record high, petty stealing is becoming rampant, armed robbers has domiciled inter town boundaries, movement in some areas is with maximum caution, no one sleeps with two eyes closed and immorality is taking its toll. Our roundabouts and historic monuments within Lokoja, the state capital all got demolished and it’s about six months on without tangible Mega architecture of any-talk more of reconstruction. With prevailing hunger in homes, the vision and mission of this divine government tends to be in a great doubt as this happenings does not depict the will of God for mankind.

Oh God of creation! Indeed, there is always light at the end of the tunnel but, could it be that your servant whom you honoured with providence without much struggle has lost the zeal? Is he having other engagements, Is he too young, or has he been laid siege by cabals? Whatever, only you have knowledge of the seen and unseen. Your children are dying, suffering in silence and the only struggle has become for survival. Rescue us with people who sees government in the concept of egalitarianism, leaders who utilize power as a venture that will create effective service delivery, generate money and better the welfare of citizens.

Kogi is too rich in terms of human and natural endowments to experience hunger and underdevelopment. All we need is prudent management, proactive governance and a vibrant leader with listening ears and eagle eye that will diversify our numerous resources. Let the incumbent government take advantage of the resuscitation of Ajaokuta Steel company, Dangote’s interest of investing here and sign pacts that will drastically boost internal generated revenue, create jobs and improve residents welfare. More so, we have abundant lands that are fertile enough for agriculture, our youths can be meaningfully engaged in farming if government gives adequate support and motivation via loans and awareness. The time is never late to do what is right!

God bless Kogi State,

God bless Federal Republic of Nigeria.
