In April 2013, Dino Melaye claimed an assassination attempt was made on his life in the Central Business District area of Abuja. Police made investigation and found out there was no evidence of any attempted assassination as claimed by Senator Dino Melaye.
In April 2017, Senator Dino Melaye claimed gunmen invaded his Ayetoro Gbede country home and assassination attempt was made on his life as guns were shot sporadically at his house. The Chairman of Ijumu LGA Taofiq Isa and others were arrested in connection with the assassination attempt and detained in Force Headquarters Abuja. Investigations were conducted and it was discovered that Sen Dino Melaye staged the assassination attempt. He was dragged before the court for false information and he is currently facing trials.
In June 2017, Senator Dino Melaye claimed an assassination attempt was made on his life as he alleged he was shot at while addressing his supporters in Lokoja. I don’t know if the police investigated this particular incidence.
In April 2018, Senator Dino Melaye claimed he was about to be killed by SARS officers conveying him from Abuja to Lokoja so he jumped off a moving car and broke his neck and injured his spinal cord. He was taken to the hospital and treated and the Lokoja journey aborted. I don’t know also if police investigated this incidence.
In July 2018, yesterday to be precise, Senator Dino Melaye has raised another alarm once more. He alleged a combination of Police, SARS, and Military (Navy, Army, Airforce) almost assassinated him as they shot sporadically at him. According to him, at the last count, over 20 bullets holes were found on his jeep car. There was no single picture of the said bullet ridden jeep anywhere even while Dino was on Twitter making his allegations.
Politician can use many tricks to deceive and get public sympathy but why Senator Dino Melaye has chosen assassination attempts as his own means of getting public sympathy is still a puzzle to me.
Senator Dino Melaye through his antics, and as a Federal Lawmaker is disparaging our security outfits in the eyes of the international community through his numerous allegations about assassination and culpability of our security outfits.
There should be a limit to politicking.
