Omala United Wins 2nd Edition of Football Tourney

Omala United football team have emerged winners of the second edition of the Umar Empowerment Foundation Unity Cup in Omala, Kogi State.

The team defeated Bagana FC by a lone goal in the final of the competition played at the Abejukolo township stadium, during the weekend, to lift the trophy and claim the cash prize.

The first runner-up got a trophy and cash prize for their efforts, while Noble FC, who won the third-place match, were rewarded with a trophy and cash prize.

Other categories that got trophies include the most valuable player, high goals scorer, best goal keeper and best coach of the tournament.

The competition was organised by the Hon. Umar Yahaya, the founder and President of Umar Empowerment Foundation. He is also a staunch chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his speech at the event, Hon. Umar called on individuals, corporate bodies and the government to invest in sports development.

He thanked the council boss, Alh. Ibrahim Yakubu Aboh; the Onu-Ife, HRH Chief Boniface Musa and Onu Abejukolo,  Alhaji Suleiman Abimaje for their support.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the security agencies for providing security throughout the tournament and admonished the youths to shun any form of violence in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Top personalities at the event include the Onu Abejukolo, Chairman of Sports Committee of Omala local government, Dan Suleiman Mohammed, representative of Hon. Ibrahim Halims, Hon.Ben Adaji, representative from the state ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Adejoh John and other dignitaries.

A total of 21 teams participated in this second edition of the competition.
