Ogori community has appealed to government to come to its rescue after being in darkness for close to eight months.

Investigations revealed that concerted effort had been made by stakeholders from the community to get power restored to the community to no avail.

Emissaries, it was learnt, were sent to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company but all that the community got were assurances.

A cross section of indigenes who spoke on the matter, said that the absence of power in the community is negatively affecting social and economic life of the area, adding that some miscreants also take advantage of the situation to commits heinous crimes.

The National President of Ogori Descendants’ Union, Hon Samuel Sadiku, described the situation as very frustrating, reiterating that several effort had been made to get the problem rectified but up until now, all the community has been getting is assurances.

According to him, the absence of power in the community has coupled socio-economic activities in the community, pointing out that many petty businesses have had to close down following the situation.

Said he:, “several businesses, especially those that require power have closed down. For instance, those who are into welding, grinding and other such power-related businesses have been forced to close down”.

Another indigene, who works in Abuja, Engineer Gbemi Omole, berated the situation and appealed to the relevant agencies to come to the community’s rescue.

According to him, the community was forced to celebrate Christmas and Easter in darkness and as it happened last year, the community may have to celebrate the annual Ovia Osese in darkness, a thing, he described as unfortunate.

Others who spoke said in recent years, Ogori has been reduced to a status of a ‘rural’ community, especially after the relocation of First Bank from the community, pointing out that even with its vast economic potentials, it has been difficult getting any bank to site a branch in Ogori, which would ultimately, serve the community and, at least, six other neighbouring communities.
