In a decisive bid to safeguard the political future and security of Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has made a passionate appeal to Christian and Muslim clerics across the state to use their pulpits and altars to shield Nigerian youths from political manipulation, thuggery, and election-related violence.

Governor Ododo made this call at the Government House in Lokoja during a joint courtesy visit by representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI). Commending both religious bodies for sustaining a cordial relationship that has fostered unprecedented harmony, the Governor described the sight of Muslim scholars and Christian clerics sitting together in unified fellowship as a powerful demonstration of brotherhood and state unity.

Addressing the delegation, Governor Ododo exonerated religious leaders from the security challenges facing the region, pointing out that selfish political interests and the deliberate exploitation of vulnerable youths remain the primary threats to peaceful coexistence. He implored the clergy to intensify sermons, preachings, and counseling sessions in churches and mosques to actively discourage political violence and acts capable of destabilizing the state ahead of future elections.

Expressing deep gratitude for their spiritual leadership, prayers, and wise counsel, the Governor assured the leaders that his administration would continue to welcome constructive guidance and prioritize divine direction in governance. He noted that peace remains the indispensable foundation for meaningful socio-economic advancement and urged sustained prayers for security agencies and state leaders.

Highlighting Kogi’s growing national profile, Governor Ododo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Kogi indigenes to strategic national positions, particularly within the security and administrative sectors. He equally celebrated the Federal Government’s approval for the state to host the upcoming Nigerian Army Annual Conference as a testament to Kogi’s strategic importance in national security discourse.

The Governor outlined major federal and state developmental strides currently underway, including the rehabilitation of the vital Abuja–Lokoja–Okene highway, the establishment of a special agro-processing zone, and ambitious plans for an international airport. He emphasized that durable peace requires a dual approach combining robust security enforcement with economic empowerment and infrastructural growth.

In their separate responses, the Chairman of CAN in Kogi State, Apostle Adebayo Olaniyan, and the Chairman of JNI, Ambassador Usman Bello, praised Governor Ododo for recognizing the vital role of faith leaders and maintaining an open-door policy. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting interfaith tolerance, offering continuous prayers, and supporting the administration’s drive toward lasting peace and development.
