The National Executive Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appointed Dr Suberu Yusuf-John as Special Adviser (SA) to the Council’s National President on Road Safety, Strategic Partnerships and Sustainable Development.
The appointment was contained in a letter to Yusuf-John signed by the NYCN National President, Amb. Isah Babangida, and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Dr Yusuf-John currently serves as Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, on road safety matters.
The council said the appointment recognised his outstanding contributions, exceptional leadership, and remarkable achievements in road safety and sustainable development.
“We are pleased to convey your appointment as Special Adviser to the Council’s National President on Road Safety, Strategic Partnerships and Sustainable Development,” the letter read in part. “This appointment takes immediate effect and shall be governed by the Constitution, policies, and directives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.”
According to the letter, Yusuf-John is expected to: Initiate and coordinate national youth road safety advocacy programmes aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and promoting safe road use among young people, Build and strengthen strategic partnerships with federal and state government institutions, development partners, diplomatic missions, international organisations, the private sector, civil society organisations, and youth-focused institutions, Mobilise technical, financial, and institutional resources to support the council’s programmes and initiatives, and Promote the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly those relating to road safety, health, youth empowerment, climate action, quality education, and sustainable communities — into the council’s programmes and activities.
The council also tasked him to facilitate collaboration with national and international organisations to promote capacity building, innovation, investment, and youth development initiatives, provide strategic policy advice to the National President on matters relating to transportation, road safety, sustainable development, and organisational partnerships, and undertake such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the National President in furtherance of the objectives of the NYCN.
The council noted that the position is honorary, and that Yusuf-John is expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct while discharging his responsibilities in a manner that reflects the vision, values, and ideals of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
NYCN expressed confidence that Yusuf-John’s wealth of experience, distinguished public service record, and commitment to national development would significantly advance its mission of empowering Nigerian youths and promoting sustainable national development.
The council congratulated Dr Yusuf-John on his appointment and wished him a successful and impactful tenure.
