An NGO, Dual Care and HIV Prevention Initiative (DCI) in Kogi, has donated six bags of rice and food ingredients to at least 40 less privileged people in the State.
The Director of the NGO, Mrs Roseline Alabi, told journalists at the programme in Lokoja, that the gesture was to reach out to the physically challenged, the elderly, widows, orphans, and children with palsy.
“We are reaching out to them on nutrition because it is evident that there are hunger in the land; so we are giving them rice and food ingredients to support them for a while after which other things will follow.
“It is Mrs WuraOla Gold, a former ‘Mrs Kogi’, that has supported us with N150, 000, who has been helping our NGO before she got married and relocated to USA. She still continue to support us.
“We lost a six years old girl recently due to hunger because she was abandoned by her parents.
“So, when the news got to her about the incidence and the challenges, the former Mrs Confluence donated the N150, 000 to the NGO to support the affected vulnerable people.
“At least, minimum of 40 less privileged people will benefit from the foodstuffs, and we will also give them transport fare.
“I want to also appreciate the Managing Director of Treasures Bakery, Dr Femi Akande and his family for always being their for us in paying the school fees of about 200 vulnerable children,” Alabi said.
She thanked the donour, and also commended the Special Adviser to the State’s Governor on Health Matters, Dr Ahmed Attah, for being very supportive in paying the hospital bills of the vulnerable children under the NGO.
Alabi, however, solicited support for a 10 year old girl in her NGO who is HIV Positive, who lost her both of her parents to the deadly disease, saying need proper nourishment.
In his remarks, Dr Ahmed Attah, commended the NGO for the initiative, saying, “we are not unaware of the challenges but will not give up on what we can do as government and individual.
“In addition to the Healthcare Outreach put in place by the Gov. Yahaya Bello, we will continue to give the people and the organisation our best support.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Iyabo Osai, a widow, praised the NGO for always being their for them, saying God has used the organisation to secure an accommodation for her and children.
