The new Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Arungwa Nwazue, has vowed to dislodge criminals from their safe havens in the state.

Nwazue made this commitment on Monday at the command headquarters, Lokoja, at the handing over ceremony as he resumed duty.

He said his goal is to deepen the efforts made by Governor Yahaya Bello who has emplaced a robust security architecture in the state.

He pledged to checkmate the activities of the bandits, kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminals to ensure that they are deterred.

The new Police boss stressed that the command will carry out frequent raids aimed at dislodging criminals from their safe haven and out of Kogi state.

He said the command will work closely with the media to ensure proper reportage of any criminal activity.

“I feel highly privileged to be deployed to Kogi state by the Inspector General of Police. It is a rare privilege and a unique call to duty and to champion the fight against criminality in the state.

“We are fully aware of the current security challenges as it impacts on our dear state negatively. We align our interests with that of the government to banish all manners of criminality by raising the bars.

“We are aware that these vices pose economic threats as well as social and political threats. In the absence of security within our polity it will distort the benefits and dividends of democracy which will be anti-development with every sense of responsibility.

“I am totally committed to sustaining the achievement made by my predecessor, AIG Ede Ayuba Ekpeji, in ensuring adequate security of life and property in the state,” he said.

Nwazue called on all citizens of Kogi state, especially the youths, to cooperate with the police. He also called for support from traditional rulers, local government chairmen, hotel owners and the press.

He assured all citizens that the police command is prepared and determined to promote a safe Kogi that will encourage and promote safety and development.
