The member representing Lokoja 2 Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Idris Ndako, on Wednesday, donated 120 dual sitter desks and cash to the pupils of St. Peters Primary School, Felele, in Lokoja Local Government Area to salvage the pupils of the carry-your-seat-home custom.

Hon. Ndako who described Education as a bedrock of any society, and for any society to make progress, stated that when the foundation, that is, the primary level of education is well laid, motivated and properly activated, the child who is at the centre of learning is well prepared, informed and sharpened for the future both mentally and physically.

He lamented that most government schools in the constituency had been in poor condition, particularly in the area of furniture and despicable learning environment for a considerable length of time, with many pupils seen carrying stools and tables from their homes to classrooms for learning.

Distributing the 120 dual sitter desks, Ndako, noted that he keyed into the Gov. Yahaya Bello-led administration’s pledge to improve on education from Primary to tertiary level, stressing that there were a lot more projects ongoing in the constituency.

He said: “Actually we have built classroom blocks but we also found out later that the pupils have no desks to sit on.”

We have gone round the schools and found out that most of the pupils were either standing up or sitting on the floor, or on ill-prepared seats and that informed my decision to provide these materials.

“There is so much ongoing in the constituency: The grading of feeder roads is ongoing, some clinics are undergoing renovation and a lot more is expected. I appeal to my constituents to be patient because we are certainly going to meet up with their expectations as a democratic government”.

Commending the lawmaker’s gesture, headmaster of the school, Mr. Adoga Abdullahi, said the items would go a long way to give succour the pupils and would alleviate their pains in the classroom and thanked the lawmaker for the gesture.

Speaking on behalf of the PTA chairman, Mr. Omale Usman, said “this is the first time we are seeing this and we need to appreciate him.

“Most of our students sit on the floor, and it is from the floor that they look up on the chalk board and write. But all of a sudden, we see that our Honourable took up the challenge and has brought a facelift to the school. We want to say that he has done well and God should help him to do more for us”.
