In view of the action of National Agency Food and Drug Control (NAFDAC) in the cities, fake and substandard drug dealers have shifted their base to rural localities where they feel safe to carry out their ungodly acts.
The Deputy Director Ports Inspection Directorate of National Agency Food and Drug Control (NAFDAC), Mrs. Comfort Makanjuola disclosed when the agency carried out an on the spot analysis of drugs in Idah and Anyigba in Kogi state.
According to her NAFDAC is aimed at cutting down sharp practices of drug dealers in the country adding the use of testing scanning machine by the agency was to determined the originality of drugs in various Pharmaceutical Chemist and Patient Chemist.
She disclosed that they have decided to invade rural areas to avoid spreading of fake drugs.
According to her most of the drugs they discovered are fake and are anti malaria drugs and anti biotic which are mostly consumed by people.
She noted that so far they have visited 28 state capitals in the country but the fake drug dealers have moved into rural areas as the agency is determined to wipe them away.
She therefore called on operators of patient chemist to desist from sales of dextrose, syringe and neddles because they don’t have the capacity to handle such complex cases.
She charged the people in the area to always report any patient chemist or pharmacy who deal in fake and substandard drugs to the agency as she advised drug dealers to always buy their stocks from approved pharmaceutical company as the agency is not willing to compromise the lifes of the people
