I wrote this tribute to express my feelings and I am sharing with Audu supporters in hopes that they will understand that they are not alone in grief.

The Prince of the Niger, Prince Abubakar Audu, the Adoja Attah of Igala land, the first executive governor of Kogi State, the father of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi State, the man of the people and our father, mentor and role model in politics, today makes it one year that you left this world. May your soul continue to rest in peace Ameen!

At the sun set of the collation day of your election when it became obvious that you were winning and I was celebrating your victory in advance, a friend of mine called me aside and said to me three words “Adoja is dead” and I laughed and said to my friend, it’s PDP gimmick don’t mind them, they have failed. About few minutes later I received a phone call from another friend in another location, a friend whose uncle was very close to you, who said to me again those three words “Adoja is dead”.

It was at that point that I said; Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un (we surely belong to Allah and to him we shall return). I tried so hard to be strong, but how can I hide the stabbing knife those words took to my heart?

A death so sudden and painful like your death a year ago, makes me realize the brevity of life. The pain is still fresh because your death came as a rude shock to me. Though you can no longer be seen by the human eye, but the legacies you left behind will never ever die.
Since you left this world, the sky is a different blue. Your departure has created a vacuum that will take Kogi State many, many years to fill.

Since the creation of the state in 1991 up until now, no Living or Dead, Military or Civilian, Former or Present governor of Kogi State can point at any state project that is meaningful or beneficial to the people of Kogi State in terms of welfare and poverty reduction except YOU!

You were such a charismatic and visionary leader, at the same time a civilian General who was ready to give all and take back nothing just to better the lots of the people of Kogi State.

Your unprecedented achievements, beginning from Kogi State University (KSU), Anyigba to Obajana Cement at Obajana and other laudable achievements of yours too many to mention here during your brief stay at the Lugard House Lokoja, will forever remain indelible in our memories and that of the generation yet unborn in Kogi State.

The Adoja Attah of Igala land, how can I forget so soon, Tuesday night of 19th May, 2015? The night of a thousand laugh we had with you in your house. On that memorable night, we paid a courtesy call on you at your Villa residence Abuja. We, the AUDU FRONTIERS GROUP, spearheaded by my Brother, my Boss and the founder of the group… Hon. AT Muhammed (The Senior Man)

How can I forget so soon, how you cracked our ribs until we couldn’t laugh any longer? You were so happy that we came, and you made us happy before we left at about 11pm that night.

But before we left… In the course of our meeting with you, we made you a promise… And to God be all the glory the promise came to fruition.

The Adoja Attah of Igala land and Prince of the Niger, I know and everyone knows that the life you lived in the course of your sojourn on earth can not be summarized in just one TRIBUTE. So I will end my tribute by saying; Man Proposes, God Disposes. May your soul continue to rest in peace! If It’s Not Adoja, It Can’t Be Adoja!!!
