The recent defection of a two-time member of Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Sani Makama to All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as a good omen for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja on Friday, the Deputy State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Hon. Mohammed Kabir said Makama’s defection will open a flood gate of decampees for many who have been discouraged from joining PDP in Igalamela-Odolu local government.

Kabir punctured Makama’s allegation of injustice in PDP, saying the ex-lawmaker is just looking for a lame excuse to justify his new political move.

He stated that contrary to Makama’s claim that he is a leader of PDP in Kogi East, his wanning influence is limited to a small part of his local government.

“Makama is not a serving lawmaker as reported by some media platforms, he is a former Assembly man.

“Also, it is worth mentioning that Makama has been a stumbling block hindering many patriots in Igalamela-Odolu local government who wish to join the Peoples Democratic Party. Many will recall that a former member of the House of Representatives elected under the platform of PDP, Hon. Hussain Ismaila, and many others left the party because of the antics of Makama. A serving Federal Minister also left PDP some years ago because he cannot cope with Makama’s use of thugs nd violence.

“He has absconded from all PDP activities for the last three years and was not in tandem with the activities of the party in Igalamela-Odolu local government,” he said.

The PDP spokesman described Makama as a “fair weather politician” who cannot stay in opposition party for long as he has a lot of skeletons to cover and protect.

“For those who know him, Makama is not a politician that can survive in opposition political party for long. He romanced with Governor Abubakar Audu between 1999 and 2003 when the Prince held sway in Lugard House. He jumped ship immediately Governor Ibrahim Idris won 2003 gubernatorial election and tied himself tightly to Captain Idris Wada between 2012 and 2016. Immediately Governor Yahaya Bello was sworn in on January 27, 2016, he became his right hand man. Many will recall his romance with Governor Bello then, even though he was in opposition party. Same Makama, working for Bello, led four other members of the House of Assembly to pass budget and impeach the then Speaker in the most undemocratic manner. He was the brain behind the notorious five greater than fifteen saga in the state Assembly,” he said.

Kabir berated the former lawmaker for attempting to cast PDP in bad light after benefiting hugely from the party. He counseled him to move to his new political abode quietly and enjoy what his new masters promised him.
