The Lokoja Local Government Chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria has categorically denied the rumours making the rounds that youths in the area attempted to attack the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

President of the Council, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, in a Press statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity, Yabagi Mohammed, said the attempted attack was by miscreants who do not wish well for the state and the area.

The statement said the youths of Lokoja are a cultured and enlightened people, who understand that despite what the state and nation is going through, the economic hardship is a phase that would pass with time.

Comrade Abdullahi Adamu said no true son or daughter of Lokoja would want to harm the governor in any way, saying that they have no reason to in view of his antecedents since his assumption of office.

He cited the example how the governor had stood behind the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Umar Ahmed Imam during the debacle that engulfed the state legislature and the development blueprint for the state capital, saying that the action of the youths was unwarranted.

He therefore appealed to the governor to focus on the developmental plans he has for the state, Lokoja in particular, and pay deaf ears to the mischief makers bent on distracting him from achieving his lofty agenda.

The youths President therefore used the opportunity to congratulate the governor for the Silver Jubilee Celebration for the state and prayed God to give him the required zeal to move it forward.

He also used the occasion to call on all well-meaning sons and daughters of Lokoja and the state in general, to rally round the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, so that Kogi would witness unprecedented development.

According to the statement, the President while also praising the efforts of the speaker of the state legislature, Rt. Hon Ahmed Imam and the administrator for Lokoja Local Government, Hon Lawal Shiru, further prayed God to grant them wisdom to pilot the affairs of the state.
