Light-Up-Lokoja Passes Vote of No Confidence on AEDC, Begins Consultations With Consumers

Leadership of Light-Up-Lokoja Movement has expressed displeasure over the epileptic power supply being received by customers of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Lokoja.
It has therefore passed a vote of no confidence on AEDC’s capacity to provide the people with efficient power supply.
A press statement signed by the Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Isiyaka and the Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed, expressed disappointment in the continuous worsening of the situation despite an agreement reached between them and the leadership of AEDC in 2017.
According to the body, management of AEDC has breached the agreement brokered between them by the paramount ruler of Lokoja, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Maikarfi III at his palace in March, 2017 where the power distribution company promised to provide an average of 14 hours electricity to Lokoja.
The movement said it was time to mobilise the people for a showdown, if that is what it would take for the people to enjoy what they legitimately earned.
The body in a related development decry what it described as “outrageous over billing” of customers in Lokoja and envisions despite lack of electricity supply by the AEDC and warned the company against charges for services the customers did not enjoy.
It called on the Federal Government and other relevant agencies to intervene and ensure that customers enjoy power supply or provide alternative company that would effectively distribute the power if the AEDC could not.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Light Up Lokoja has commenced consultations with consumers and other stakeholders on power situation around Lokoja, the Kogi State capital and environs for critical assessment of power situation.
It began the exercise on Monday 18th June, 2018.
