Ahead of the October 19th, 2024 Local Government Elections in Kogi State, everything seems not to be well with the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kabba district of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area as the choice of the party councilor candidates across the nine wards has become subject of controversy.
According to an impeccable source, some few stakeholders in cahoots with a monarch are allegedly working round the clock to sideline the immediate past Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Prince Matthew Kolawole in his Egbeda ward.
The source further alleged that a “kangaroo endorsement was done in favor of one Dare Alausa in Egbeda Primary School without the knowledge of the former Speaker who is the leader of the ward, hence the whole exercise became controversial, with the chairman of the APC in the ward denying his involvement in the whole saga.”
Further findings by our correspondent revealed that similar scenario is also playing out in Otu ward where the female slot zoned to old ward C compromising of Okedayo, Egbeda and Otu wards has been unanimously agreed upon and zoned to Egbeda ward being the headquarters of the zone and the first to produce female Councilor in 1999 is being changed to Otu ward without the knowledge of stakeholders.
One of the stakeholders who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said the current crop of APC leaders in the local government are introducing strange doctrine into the politics of the area, stressing that how on earth could an aspirant be the one dictating who and who to be nominated as councilorship candidate for a ward that he or she is not part of.
He said the leadership of the party in the state needs to intervene as the issue lingers, adding that it would be a serious challenge when real election comes, pointing out that this is how PDP became bossy and they lost all elections since 2015 in the local government.
He added that if care was not taken, APC would die a natural death in Kabba-Bunu local government area going by what the leaders are currently doing.
