A group in Kogi state, Kogi Good Governance Promoter, KGGP, has called on the people of Kogi state to support the Governor Yahaya Bello administration’s drive to rid the state of corruption.
In a statement by the chairman of the group, Alhaji Muktar Bajeh, said with the grave revelation coming from the screening committee, it was evidently clare that the state has been held hostage by some cabals that have made up their minds that nothing good must happen to the people.
According to him ” It is very clear that the government has the interest of the state and its people at heart. We must all work in concert with the governor to liberate the state from those that has held back development and put the state on the part of progress”
He noted that a situation where Kogi State Polytechnic alone has over 1000 ghost workers as stated by Auditor General for Local Government, Backup Screening Committee, is very unfortunate.
“Can you imagine that In Yagba East West local government also, someone is receiving salaries as a teacher and at the same time as Local Government Staff”
“Or the case of 61 year old Kogi Worker with date of first appointment in 1975 who was cleared to continue in service. How can a state make progress with this monumental corruption”
He called on the workers to call off their one week old strike in the interest of the state, saying that continuing the strike while payment of salary is ongoing will be a clare de service to the state
“I am particularly calling on the Kogi state University and the state polytechnic that have received four months salary each to go back to work in the interest of our children, otherwise posterity will not forgive us” he stressed
The group called on the government not to be derailed from its task of building a better kogi state that will be the pride of the people, saying that the pragmatic steps taken by the government so far has shown that it is committed to the welfare of genuine workers in the state.
