Kogi State gets more money from the federation account than Kwara State but realities in these states says otherwise. Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed today commissioned the first Shoprite outlet in the state to further drive its shared prosperity campaign launched by the governor earlier in the year. The 3,700 square meter store is part of Shoprite’s expansion strategy, as it intends to cover every major city in Nigeria. The store space is comparable to the one at the Palms Lekki in Lagos and will have as neighbors a rich line of other international and local Nigerian retail brands.
Kwara Mall is currently ranked fourth largest shopping Mall in Nigeria, and it is a joint venture between Persianas and the Kwara State government. The new mall is located on Ilorin premier business district.
Shoprite Business Development Manager, Jan Van Zyl, said: “we’re happy to be opening in such a welcoming environment. Kwarans are renowned for their effortless taste and we have the quality to satisfy.”
Mr. Van Zyl commenting further on the store expansion projects said “The success of Polo Parks Enugu has proven that centers of this nature can be successful outside of the conventional commercial center of Lagos and Abuja. Shoprite is proud to be part of this development.
It is to prove the company’s commitment to serving all Nigerians from all backgrounds and income groups throughout Nigeria. We believe by going to all places where our customers are located, we can serve our customers better.”
It is approximated that 180 direct and over 100 indirect jobs will be created as the new store opens. Adeola Kagho, the human resource manager of Shoprite enthusing over the sustainable employment that would be created said “We build employee competence by investing in training and development.
“Our training programs have an organizational and personal perspective to it which results in our employees ability to carry out their jobs effectively, broadened skill set and personal satisfaction”, he added.
