#KogiDecides: INEC Deploys 3,700 Smart Card Readers for Kogi Governorship Election – REC

The Kogi Resident Electoral Com­missioners, REC, Alhaji Halilu Husein Pai has disclosed that 3700 Smart Card Readers have been deployed to the state ahead of November 21 governorship election.

Pai who disclosed this while speaking on a live Radio programme “Peo­ples Parliament” moni­tored in Lokoja yester­day, stated that INEC was ready to conduct free, fair and Credible governor­ship election.

He explained that con­trary to speculation that Smart Card Reader ma­chines would not be used for the election, both the Smart Card Readers and Permanent Voter Cards would be used during the governorship election in Kogi State.

The REC stated that a total of 3,000 Smart Card Reader machines will be distributed to the polling units, noting that the com­mission has provided for additional 700 Smart Card Readers as back up in case there are any technical hitches.

Pai also disclosed that INEC has recruited ad-hoc staff for the repair of the Smart Card Reader machines that developed technical fault.

He pointed out that INEC has partnered with all criti­cal stakeholders, political parties ,actors, security agencies, traditional rulers and civil society organisa­tions to ensure they con­duct hitch- free governor­ship election in the state.
