I can not help but marvel at the two brothers that have represented the
good people of Kogi West in the national assembly, the red chamber
precisely, in the past eleven and a half years.
These two brothers have exhibited their gross incompetence and
cluelessness as regards comprehending and judiciously utilizing the
mandate given to them by their constituents.
The former; a two time senator turned protocol officer to his new found
sponsor and also a monumental failure whose representation was a shadow of the 21th century democracy. With two terms of eight years in the senate, it is a very pathetic reality that he has nothing to present as dividend of democracy to the people he represented, except for his unyielding grammars and his many investments outside the state, far from the people he misrepresented.
While the latter; a re-known and glorified thug, attack dog of his corrupt
master, a noise-making celebrity senator who lives flamboyantly while the
people he claims to represent wangles in extreme poverty. Always stirring
commotion wherever he goes.
These are the characters of the handlers of our senatorial district. Yet,
we sing their praises as our messiahs: messiahs that are not sensitive to
our collective plights as a people, failed messiahs with no sense of
responsibility.
Our district lack basic social amenities and infrastructures. Yet we learn no lesson from our wrong choice.
These tested failures are everywhere parading themselves as the only
credible alternative to represent us while some people, out of their
ignorance or for reasons best known to them, support the self-service
ambition and misrepresentation of these men.
Are they truly the only credible alternatives at this point in history?
Have we no other candidates of good characters who can be trusted with our collective welfare?
Shall we once again be swayed away by their vain promises, political
propaganda and the seductive NAIRA?
No, I solemnly protest. We are far above money and stomach infrastructure
politics. It is time to vote a visionary candidate irrespective of
political party and sentiment of any form, I presume.
Here is another opportunity to make amendment for our past mistakes
thereby shaping our future with our hands by voting the right candidate in
the forthcoming general elections.
We can not afford to continuously apply the same failed solution to a recurring problem hence, we apply a new one.
Let us rise to the leadership challenges militating against our collective
progress as a people with determination before it wipe us off from the face
of the earth.
