Member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency, RT. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has strongly refuted allegations linking him to the ongoing political developments surrounding the Kogi West Senatorial District, describing the claims as false, malicious, unfounded and deliberately crafted to tarnish his image.

The lawmaker’s response follows a widely circulated article accusing him of orchestrating divisions within the political structure of Kogi Western Senatorial District and interfering in the affairs of other political actors.

Reacting on behalf of the lawmaker’s team in the early hours of Monday, Dr. Modeyin Femi Klinsman dismissed the allegations as the handiwork of political detractors and jobbers seeking relevance through misinformation.

He urged the Kogi State Government not to be distracted by what he described as baseless attacks, but to remain focused on its mandate of providing good governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of the state.

According to him, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo should continue to pursue his developmental agenda while ensuring strict adherence to constitutional provisions and democratic principles by supporting candidates lawfully produced by their respective political parties.

Dr. Klinsman noted that similar allegations had previously been addressed by Abejide, who categorically denied having any role in the emergence or substitution of candidates in any political party.

“I am not the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, neither am I the National Chairman of the APC. I do not possess the constitutional powers to substitute legally elected candidates of any political party at any level,” Abejide had stated while reacting to the matter in May.

The lawmaker’s camp described suggestions that he was involved in attempts to manipulate party structures or influence electoral outcomes as illogical and lacking any factual basis.

The Special Adviser on Public Communications to the lawmaker further maintained that Abejide has remained focused on his legislative responsibilities and constituency development, contrary to claims that he is pursuing a hidden political agenda.

“Our principal is not in a hurry to govern Kogi State or occupy any other political office. Those peddling such narratives are merely engaging in speculation. Power belongs to God, and He alone determines who occupies positions of authority,” the aide said.

The statement stressed that Abejide’s track record of representation, empowerment programmes and community development initiatives speaks for itself and should not be overshadowed by what it termed politically motivated propaganda.

The lawmaker’s team called on members of the public to disregard the allegations and urged political actors across the state to embrace issue-based engagements capable of promoting peace, unity and development rather than resorting to campaigns of calumny.

They reaffirmed Abejide’s commitment to democratic ideals, constitutionalism and the continued advancement of the people of Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency.
