Kogi State Government says it is in the process of ensuring that only bona fide persons who are rightfully allocated and entitled to the post-flood housing live in the Estate.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, stated this in Lokoja to clear the air on the illegal occupation of the flood estate built by the State Government by unauthorized persons .

Awoniyi disclosed that Kogi  State because of the commitment of the Capt Idris Wada, administration to the plight of flood affected persons, remained the only State that built a Flood Housing Estate after the 2012 flood, said the Ministries of Works and Justice have been asked to ensure that only the rightful allotees are allowed to take possessions of the said buildings.

Awoniyi, assured that through legal means those not entitled to stay in the estate would be ejected for the rightful owners, and  appealed for calm from those affected.

Awoniyi said the building was built for people who experienced flood in 2012,  said not minding that many of them built on flood plain, government he pointed out was magnanimous to have allocated them houses, lamented the situation where people illegally moved to occupy the buildings.

The Deputy Governor urged those genuinely allocated the buildings to exercise restraints as in the next few days, they would take rightful possession of their allocations.

Awoniyi assured that the State Government had fully completed a monitoring of the flood situation in the State, acknowledged that some riverine communities and houses built on flood plains have been affected by flood, assured that government is constantly on the alert to ensure that lives and properties are safe, even as he appeals to the people to remain vigilant and move upward.
