A House of Representatives aspirant in the last general election, Bayo Oyekanmi has said despite the electoral success recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is still the ruling and dominant party in Kogi State and would definitely win the governorship election coming up later in the year.
Bayo Oyekanmi who aspired to represent Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal constituency on the platform of PDP made this known to The Graphic.
According to him, the voting pattern during the last elections showed that the electorate voted against politicians who did not perform while in office and not against PDP as erroneously believed in certain quarters.
He called on stakeholders and members of PDP in Kogi State to go back to the drawing board and put their house in order as well as plan ahead so as to win the gubernatorial election.
Oyekanmi said that the PDP would play the opposition role better than the APC did; noting that the APC is a conglomeration of different political ideologies and would find it difficult to govern or rule Nigeria effectively like the PDP did for 16 years.
He said the lack of harmonized political ideologies accounted for the failure recorded by the APC during the primary elections organised by the party and assured that this would work against them during the state gubernatorial primary elections coming up in the year.
Oyekanmi described politicians defecting to APC from other parties after the general elections as hungry and self-seeking people who do not have the interest of the citizens at heart just as he advised the electorate to be wary of such politicians.
He also congratulated the National Assembly member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu constituency, Hon Tajudeen Yusuf on his electoral success and for being the first to be returned in the political history of the constituency.
