A renowned philanthropist and illustrious son of Amuro Land, Engr. Edward Olatunji Meseko, has been honoured with the prestigious title of Aare Mayegun of Amuro Land in recognition of his humanitarian contributions and commitment to community development.

The chieftaincy title was conferred on Meseko on Saturday in Amuro during the 2026 Amuro Day celebration.

He was among Five distinguished individuals honoured by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Alfred Modupe Aiyedogbon (JP). Alamuro of Amuro Land.

The traditional ruler described the conferment of the titles as recognition of the recipients’ outstanding humanitarian services and contributions to the development of Amuro Land.

He urged the new title holders to regard the honour as a call to greater service and remain committed to initiatives that would promote the growth and development of the community.

Speaking after receiving the title, Meseko expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler, community leaders and people of Amuro Land for the confidence reposed in him.

He described the honour as a collective recognition of the contributions of all sons and daughters of Amuro Land, pledging to intensify his efforts towards the community’s development.

Meseko also challenged his fellow title holders and other stakeholders to work together to transform Amuro Land into a globally recognised destination through sustainable development.

“I want to thank Oba Ayedogbon and other traditional rulers for the confidence reposed in me and the honour bestowed on me.

“I promise to do more to ensure that Amuro becomes a world-class tourist destination. It is our collective responsibility to take Amuro Land to greater heights.

“We cannot achieve this alone. We must come together as one big family and work collectively to take Amuro to the peak of development,” he said.

As part of his commitment to the community, the newly installed Aare Mayegun donated N500,000 to support the launch of the Amuro Day programme and contribute to the development of the land.

Meseko, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirant and proud son of Amuro Land, also called on the youths to embrace unity, protect the community’s interests and actively participate in its development.

Fans, supporters, friends, family members and well-wishers also accompanied the new Aare Mayegun to his hometown of Takete-Ide to celebrate the honour with him.
