The Kogi State Ministry of Transport under Governor Yahaya Bello has put in place buses with arguably the lowest bus fares for indigenes of the state and other commuters to ease their transportation to various cities across the length and breadth of the country.
The buses, which were flagged off to ply various routes within the country on January 11, 2017, are fully air- conditioned, (AC), in order to provide comfort for the passengers.
Aside that, only professional drivers who met industry standards have been recruited to drive the buses according to a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Odaudu Joel Minister.
The statement read, ‘’at the pilot stage, ten (10) fleet of rebranded ‘New Direction’ buses were earmarked for the following routes: Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Jos, Abuja and Kaduna. The mouth-watering fares for these routes are: Lagos: N4, 100, Ibadan: 3,500, Ilorin: N2, 100, Jos: N2, 600, Abuja: N1, 100, Kaduna: N1, 800.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Transport, Prince Salisu Sani Ogu, said the state government through his office planned to establish The Kogi State Traffic Management Authority (KOTRAMA), which according to him, will bring orderliness amongst motorists and generate employment for the teeming youths of the state.
Hon. Sani Ogu said The Road Traffic Law had passed first reading in the State House of Assembly, waiting for the second reading, then public hearing before it is sent to the Governor for his assent.
As for the time-frame for SURE-P buses to be back on Lokoja roads, the Commissioner stressed: “Between now and end of the month(February), ‘the Confluence City Services’ which will reduce transportation bottleneck within the metropolis of the capital city will be flagged off by His Excellency. The major target are the students and the vulnerable”.
