Kogi SDGs Berate Contractors Executing Projects Without Adherence to Specifications

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Kogi State has berated the attitude of some contractors currently executing the 2014 CGS/SDGs projects without adherence to the bill of quantity and specifications as contained in the contract documents.

According to the statement released from his office, the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Arc. Abdulmumeen Okara who was on an unscheduled inspection of the SDGs projects across the Central Senatorial District of the state on the 25/26th of March, 2017 has issued an order for the revocation of contract for the renovation of Medical Records Department at the General Hospital, Okene for failing to move to site after three months the company was mobilised.
While commending the contractors handling the supply of medical equipment to the hospital for quality and timely completion of job, the Special Adviser expressed displeasure at contractors handling the renovation of the Male Surgical and Gynaecology Wards at the General Hospital, Okene for poor quality jobs and ordered the management of the companies handling the jobs and other contractors carrying out SDGs projects in the Central Senatorial District of the state to appear before the SDGs technical team on Monday, 27th March, 2017 at the SDGs office in Lokoja.
As reward for good and timely job delivery, the Special Adviser stated that the company that handled the construction of perimeter fence at Okene General Hospital will be reconsidered for another job, noting that the contractor moved to site without mobilisation and have completed the job without compromising the standard.
At the General Hospital, Okengwe , Arc Okara expressed satisfaction at the quality and level of job done so far and warned other contractors handling SDGs projects to strictly adhere to standard or risk revocation. He said it was no longer business as usual, adding that the people must get value for their money.
The unscheduled monitoring of the SDGs projects by the Special Adviser speaks to the sustained commitment of Arc Abdulmumeen Okara in ensuring transparency and quality job delivery while working closely with genuine contractors to strengthen governance systems and raise compliance standards in SDGs.
Arc Okara also warned that contractors who were still not on sites after mobilisation would have their contracts revoked, adding that such contractors will not escape adequate and appropriate penalty for defaulting.
