Kogi Scholar’s Consistent Contributions to Local Communities in England

Kogi-born expert on community policing, Dr. Aminu Musa Audu is not resting on his oars as he continues to deploy his time, energy and expertise to local communities in England.

From the Mayor of Liverpool Achievement Award in 2014 to the global accolades that trailed his book launch on community policing in 2018, Dr. Aminu Musa Audu is unrelenting as he continues to make noteworthy contributions to communities in Engalnd.

Last week, a Liverpool-based school, Smithdown Primary School, hailed Aminu for his efforts and contributions made as a Parent Governor to the school.

In a letter signed by the Chair of Governors, Norman Christian, the school commended Aminu for his “continued commitment” to Smithdown.

“You are well respected by your fellow governors and have helped the school to make continued progress and to achieve a good grade in our recent OFSTED inspection,” he said.

This remarkable commendation is coming four days after a similar one from Liverpool Women NHS Foundation Trust.

In a letter dated February 27, 2020, the Trust wrote to commend Aminu for his commitment during his tenure as a Public Governor.

Aminu was elected as a member of the Foundation Trust’s Council of Governors in 2017 to represent the Rest of England and Wales constituency.

He concluded his term in 2019.

Aminu, who worked as a lecturer at the Department of Sociology, Kogi State University Anyigba relocated to England on TETFUND scholarship for full-time doctoral research entitled ‘Community Policing: Exploring Police/Community Relationship for Crime Control in Nigeria’ at the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology, University of Liverpool.

In 2014, Dr. Aminu Musa Audu bagged the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson OBE Achievement Award in recognition of his voluntary contributions to the development of the Liverpool city region and in support of the International Festival for Business.

In 2018, Dr Aminu Audu launched a book on community policing in Liverpool and the academic effort has become one of the bestselling sociological interventions for the policing systems in Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the world. Audu’s successful development of the Ochamalienwu Theory of Community Policing marked a major breakthrough in the global quest for efficient policing policy.

Dr Aminu Audu has taken a bold to further entrench his breakthrough research work with the establishment of Institute of Community Policing (ICOPOL) in Idah, Kogi state.

ICOPOL, among other objectives, is to be a lead global resource centre of excellence for effective community policing, and security strategies by providing a forum for the mutual exchange and cross-fertilization of ideas on community policing and experiences among members, other institutions, governmental departments in Nigeria and other part of the world. This, ICOPOL hopes to achieve, through four thematic areas of research, training, professional fellowship and advocacy.
