The National Association of Business Administration and Management Students (NABAMS), Kogi State Polytechnic Chapter, has conferred an award of Outstanding Performance on the Acting Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman.
The award which was conferred on Tuesday was in recognition of the Acting Rector’s sterling efforts geared towards the transformation of the institution.
It was also in recognition of series of reforms and other visible improvements recorded since he assumed office.
While conferring the award, the President of the Association, Comrade Ademu Opportunity stressed that the Department of Business Administration and the entire Polytechnic are excited about the reforms going on in the Polytechnic under the leadership of the Acting Rector.
He specifically commended the Acting Rector for fishing out the bad eggs among them, stressing that they are solidly behind the administration in the efforts to tackle those who want to soil the name of the Department and the Polytechnic at large.
The Acting Rector, in his response, appreciated the departmental student leadership for distinguishing themselves and identifying with what is right.
He further thanked Governor Yahaya Bello for the confidence reposed in him and the maximum support he has enjoyed from him.
While reassuring the students of the restoration of their dignity, he said “I am here to serve the students, protect their interest and manage the staff”.
He promised to do all that is within his power to protect the image of the Polytechnic and ensure that high academic standard is maintained.
High points of the event was the presentation of a plaque to the Acting Rector by the Association.
The conferment of the award came barely 24 hours after a press conference during which the Acting Rector briefed the media on the efforts being made to tackle the endemic academic decadence and lawlessness in the institution.
Those suspected to be behind the syndicate involved in examination malpractice were paraded by the security agents during the press briefing.
The arrest of the suspects followed a tip off on the existence of an illegal examination at “Champions Lodge”, after the Primary School, Sarkin Noma, NATACO area, Lokoja.
In the raids that followed the tip off, a team from the security department of the Polytechnic bust the illegal examination centre and retrieved 32 scripts from the ‘Magic Centre’.
Thirty one of the scripts belonged to students from the Department of Business Administration and one belonged to a student of the Department of Accountancy.
Further efforts led to the arrest of 5 of the suspects on Friday 6th November, 2020, and an additional 12 on Monday 9th November, 2020, who confessed to varying degrees of involvement.
The award presentation had in attendance the NABAMS President, Ademu Opportunity, the General Secretary, Abuma Isaac, the Treasurer, Sunday Usman Enewn and ten (10) other members of the exco.
