The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ has eulogized the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programe, SURE – P, saying the project has sustained democracy in the State.
The Kogi State Chairman of the NUJ, Alhaji Ali Atabor stated this in Ogori, Ogori/Magongo Local Government area of the State as part of the ongoing tour of SURE – P projects across the 21 council areas of the State.
Atabor who said the SURE- P has increased the dividend of democracy and has direct impact on the lives of the electorates in the grassroots area, called for the sustenance of the intervention scheme.
He also eulogized the local Government chairman, Major (Rtd) Olafimihan Akerejola for being the only chairman whose local government has completed all the projects initiated under the SURE – P.
He also said the local Government has ensured a prudent management of the SURE – P funds with standard values on all the projects; urged him to continue in the same way.
The chairman of the Local Government, Major Olafimihan Akerejola said N100 Million has so far been expended by the Local Government on the 35 projects covered under the SURE – P phase 1 and phase 11 scheme.
Akerejola also eulogized the Federal Government for the intervention scheme saying it has helped to complement the dwindling fortune of the monthly revenue accrued to the Local Government.
He said the SURE – P projects which have all been completed were scattered across the Health, rural electrification, education, agriculture and physical development sector.
