The striking Kogi state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has condemned the state government’s decision to compulsorily retire experienced medical officers.
The association said that the state government should be held responsible for any adverse consequence of the on going strike.
In a communiqué issued at the end of an ordinary general meeting on Thursday and signed by the chairman, Dr Tijani Godwin and the Secretary, Dr Zubair Kabiru, the association stated that in spite of the strike and her magnanimity in allowing some of her members to continue to offer skeletal services in the state, the government have not reciprocate such gesture by addressing their demands.
“Congress believes that the Kogi state government have been given ample time and opportunity to resolve the issues at stake,” the association stated.
The association vowed to sustain the industrial action until their minimum demands are met.
The association also directed all health care centers in the state to remain shut while also calling in all its members in Federal Medical Centers, Lokoja to proceed on sympathy strike on the first three days of every month.
The association also threatened to shut down all private healthcare facilities in the state if there is no response from the state government in the next few days.
Recall that the state chapter of the Nigerian medical association had called out her members on strike since January 7  to press home their demands for the payment of the balance of 40 percent salaries and arrears as well as the implementation of revised CONMESS.
