Kogi NIMC Begins Investigation of Staff Allegedly Involved in Extorting NIN Applicants for Registration

The National Identity Management Commission, (NIMC) has begun investigation over allegations that some of their staff were allegedly extorting money from NIN applicants in Kogi State.

The Kogi State Coordinator of NIMC, Owolabi Usman disclosed this while responding to an investigation conducted by Wadata Media and Advocacy Center (WAMAC) which was aired on a private radio station Grace FM in the State.

During the investigation by Wadata under cover journalists, it was gathered that some staff of the agency were allegedly extorting money from applicants who want to do their NIN registration.

Not knowing that the organization was posing as one of the applicants, a staff who was saddled with the responsible for the registration requested for N1500, before he will do his job for the under cover journalist.

Reacting to the development, the The Kogi State Coordinator of NIMC Owolabi Usman said some of the staff identified is currently under investigation.

He vowed that anyone found guilty of the weighty allegations will be shown the exit door from NIMC.

“We have seen the evidence brought before the management. That is why we are investigating this dubious act. Any of our staff who is truly found guilty in this disgraceful act will be dismissed and meant to face the full wrath of the law” he said.
