December last year, a Lokoja High Court ordered the Kogi State government to, within 45 days, fix a date for the conduct of elections into the state’s 21 local government councils.
The state Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, gave the order on Tuesday, 20th December 2011 in his judgment on a suit filed by the state Chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr Haddy Ametuo.
Though the 45 days has elapsed, the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has rolled out a tentative time table for the local government elections. The process is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 10th April 2012 and the election proper is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 26th May 2012.
