Former Chairman of Okene local government council, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar Karaku may soon join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Karaku, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly under immense pressure from his supporters to leave PDP for APC. His supporters have called on him to contest Okene local government council’s chairmanship election under APC.

The former council boss, according to reports, is considering his options after the just concluded PDP local government congresses which was allegedly hijacked by Senator Ahmed Ogembe. Karaku has been seen attending functions with APC stalwarts in the local government area.

Signals from the ruling APC suggests that Karaku will be welcomed to the party. There are plans to draft him into Okene chairmanship race to repalce the incumbent Administrator, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad (Ya-Muhamma).

Meanwhile, a youth organization, the Okene Concerned Youths urged Karaku to vie for chairmanship seat on APC platform.

The chairman of the group, Tijani Ajare, said that the situation in Okene requires a leader with focus and sense of dedication.

“We call on Karaku to come and join the APC and contest for the chairmanship seat of the Okene LG. Our call on the former council chairman to contest in the forthcoming chairmanship election is for him to salvage Okene from total collapse and decay, occasioned by serious maladministration in the last two years.

“Karaku is known across the state as political heavy weight and so if placed in a position of authority once again, a solution would be found and businessmen would return to invest in Okene LG,” Ajere said.

He said the group had identified corruption as the major cause of the under-development of the council, adding that Karaku is the only solution to the menace.
