A Kogi High Court sitiing in Anyigba has affirmed HRH Jonah Idris Okai as Onu Abocho.

Presiding Judge, Justice Ajayi, dismissed the suit filed by Anaja Michael Marijata seeking a restraining order of court to prevent installation of Okai as Onu Abocho.

Marijata, who claimed to represent the interest of Odoma sub ruling house, said if the application is not granted, it will result into having a wrong person as Onu Abocho which may lead to the breach of peace in the community.

Justice F. Ajayi, after hearing both parties through their counsels, dismissed the claims of the aggrieved party as lacking merit as the applicant failed to substantiate his claim.

“In summary, I find that applicant has not placed before the court materials showing the existence of an enforceable legal right to be protected by an injunction of the balance of convenience and irreparability of damages in his favour, and as if to make matter worse, there is no averment by the applicant to counter the averments of the 1st respondent in para 4(c) that he was duly endorsed, nominated, interviewed and preferred for the stool.

“With the views expressed above, I find the application to be completely and irredeemably bereft of any merit and it is accordingly dismissed,” the Judge ruled.

As Onu Abocho, Okai is the traditional ruler of the entire Biraidu land.
