Kogi Guber: Barr Tanko Picks ADP Ticket

A legal practitioner and chieftain of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Kogi State, Barr. Abdulrahman Ndako Tanko has emerged as the governorship candidate of the party, for the coming November gubernatorial election.

Tanko who was elected through consensus during the party primaries held in Lokoja, the Kogi capital on Wednesday night, was a minority leader in the state House of Assembly.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Tanko assured that his administration would work assiduously in pulling the state out of the woods if given the mandate, promising to restore the lost glory of the state.

He said emphasis would be placed on security, health, agriculture, education and infrastructural development, assuring that his administration would partner with the federal government to make Ajaokuta Steel Company functional and viable, for the overall interest of the state.

He added that healthcare delivery system would equally be given serious attention, promising to build standard, modern and well equipped hospitals, where pregnant women and young persons from age one to 17 years would be provided with free medical care.

He asserted that employment generation and women empowerment would also be given top priority,   and called on the teeming youths in the state to be part of the struggle to put the state on sound economic pedestal.

According to the governorship candidate, concerted efforts would be geared towards rebuilding dilapidated schools across the state, insisting that no stone should be left unturned in securing the future of our youths.

He said solid road network would be constructed at the rural areas to enable farmers transport their goods, even as he promised to establish three model science schools in each of the three senatorial districts to specially train our youths.

While appreciating the teeming supporters of the party for the confidence reposed in him, Barr. Tanko promised to pay workers’ salaries as at when due, saying the state workforce would be trained adequately for better service delivery.

The National Administrative Secretary of the party and chairman of the electoral committee for the shadow election, Mr. Light Adoko commended the delegates for their maturity and orderly conduct, urging them to continue to work collectively for the success of the party.

The state chairman of the party, Hon. Gowon Omale in a remark, stressed the need for the loyalists and supporters of the party to work very hard, considering the serious task ahead, even as he pointed out that election should not be seen as a do or die affair.
