As Nigerians await the screening and confirmation of the new ministerial nominee, Professor Stephen Ocheni from Kogi State, groups and individuals in the state have come out to applaud President Muhammadu Buhari for the nomination.
One of such groups is the the Igala Socio-cultural organization, the Ojuju Agbadufu Igala, which at the end of its regular quarterly meeting, yesterday, described the appointment as well deserved and called on the Nigerian Senate to expedite action in confirming the nominee.
In a communique signed by the association’s Council Clerk, Hon. Barry Moses Idakwo, it expressed its gratitude, and said Professor Ocheni would bring his wide knowledge in the academia to bear on his portfolio as a minister of the republic.
The body stated that by the nomination, President Muhammadu Buhari has rekindled the hopes of the Igala Kingdom, and assured that it would help them cope with the tragic loss of former minister from that area, Barr James Ocholi.
In the same vein, the National Association of Igala Professionals has commended the President for nominating Professor Ocheni, describing it as putting round peg in a round hole, considering his track record as a thoroughbred professional.
Spokesman of the body, Ambassador Joel Onoja stated this in a chat with newsmen in Lokoja. He said that Federal Government has validated the President’s early pledge to fish out the best brains the nation has to offer in his efforts to move the country out of socio-economic doldrums.
In his reaction, a former colleague of the nominee in Kogi State University, Dr. Usman Ogbo said the appointment of Professor Ocheni could not have come at a better time, saying his kind of personality is required at this point in time to help set the country on the right path.
Dr. Ogbo, who echoed the nature of the nominee as a committed individual in whatever responsibility he is tasked with, stressed that Professor Ocheni would no doubt bring his experience to bear in his new office.
