In a swift response to the passing of former Governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, the Kogi State Government has constituted a high-powered 21-member committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu, to coordinate a state burial and accord the late elder statesman a fitting, dignified farewell in accordance with Islamic rites.
The establishment of the committee follows a solemn pronouncement by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo during his condolence visit to the bereaved family in Abuja on Sunday.
Presiding over the maiden meeting of the committee in Lokoja, Deputy Governor Salifu affirmed that the state government is working in close synchronization with the family to manage the return of the former governor’s remains from the United Kingdom and execute all necessary arrangements for his state burial.
To ensure a seamless, well-coordinated ceremony, the central committee approved the immediate activation of eight specialized subcommittees, namely Prayer, Mobilisation, Entertainment, Media, Venue and Protocol, Tomb Preparation, Finance, and Security. Salifu directed all subcommittees to commence work without delay and maintain high operational readiness as final timelines are concluded alongside the family.
The 21-member panel brings together top government officials and prominent political leaders across the state. Joining Chairman Joel Salifu on the executive committee is the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mrs. Ayoade Folashade Arike, who serves as the committee’s Secretary.
Other key members appointed to the central panel include Alhaji Musa Amodu, Hon. Ali Bello, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Halims, Comrade Jerry Omodara (Rtd.), Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Alhaji Yakubu Okala, Hajiya Rabietu Okute, and Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim.
Completing the burial committee are Hon. Atuluku Levi, Hon. Peter Ameh Mark, Hon. Tosin Lagba Olokun, Hon. Emma Egwu, Barrister Kabiru, Elder Friday Sani Makama, Alhaji Tenimu Idris, Alhaji Yahaya Karaku, Alhaji Mamudu Alfa, and Hon. Bashir Audu.
