The Kogi State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has issued a twenty one, 21, days ultimatum to Kogi State Government to concretely and practically resolve all outstanding demands of Kogi teachers.
In a communique signed by the State Chairman of NUT, Comrade Suleiman Abdullahi, the Principal Assistant Secretary General, Comrade John Agber and the State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ebute Haruna, the Union bemoans that plight of Kogi Teachers and the continued marginalization and deprivation of Basic Education (Primary School) Teachers in the State, particularly in respect of the national minimum wage and 27.5% Teacher-specific allowances.
“The Union noted with regret that the state government has continued to observe all agreements reached with the Union over age-long demands in the breach and treated Teachers’ welfare with ignominy, thereby necessitating this 21-day ultimatum which takes effect from Friday, 5th August, 2016”, the communiques reads.
The Union listed six main demands the state government must meet within the ultimatum.
First, the state government MUST implement full, 100%, minimum wage for Basic Education (Primary School) Teachers in the state.
Second, government must restore 27.5% Teacher-specific allowances to Teachers in the state.
Third, government must pay six years outstanding leave allowances to Basic Education (Primary School) Teachers in the state. That is, from 2011 to date.
Fourth, government must pay six years outstanding annual increment to Basic Education (Primary School) Teachers in Kogi state, from 2011 to date.
Fifth, state government must implement six years outstanding promotions with cash-backing for Basic Education (Primary School) Teachers in the state.
Lastly, the Union demand that government pay December, 2014 outstanding salary for Basic Education (Primary School) Teachers in the state.
