Kogi State Government said on Wednesday that it had trained 630 teachers on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) through partnership with the British Council.
The state governor, Captain Idris Wada, said the training was imperative considering the role teachers played in the training of children.
He added that his administration would not relent in its effort towards investing in teachers training to enable them improve in their service delivery, saying teachers, as a molders of character, should be equipped to uplift quality teaching in schools.
According to him: “Our government continues to accord priority to education as the cornerstone of our human capital development agenda. We have made massive investments in education, even as we explore every means to make our schools better and sustain the industrial harmony in the education sector.”
The governor noted that his administration has investments in the construction of two hostel blocks at the Kogi State University, Anyigba, and another two hostel blocks at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, to help the shortage of accommodation in the two tertiary institutions in the state.
He added that St. Charles College Ankpa, Government Secondary School, Dekina, Holy Rosary College, Idah, AbdulAziz Attah Memorial College, Okene, and St. Augustine College, Kabba, had benefited from the recent rehabilitation of three blocks of classrooms, examination halls and administrative blocks.
Captain Wada declared that his administration had no plan to cancel the payment of West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for all students in the state, pointing out that what the government needed to do was to take stock of the accurate number of candidates, saying government had discovered disturbing inflation on the number of students over the past two years.
“I am sure all parents would appreciate the need for our limited resources to be spent appropriately on genuine beneficiaries of the WAEC-fee subsidy. We will not spare whoever indulge in this fraudulent act. I urged parents to come forward with their receipt of payments so that government can refund the money to them,” he said.
